Do you include resistance training in your weekly Do you include resistance training in your weekly exercise routine?

For women, resistance training is super important not just for improving strength and toning, but also to help prevent osteoporosis later in life. 

This year I've shaken things up for the GGG Online Squad membership - live training sessions now include upper body/core resistance on Mondays, and lower body/core on Wednesdays (along with the usual slow flow yoga to cap things off on a Friday). 

During these online classes we use a set of dumbells, but if you haven't got some you can sub for just about anything (Filled water bottles! Food cans!) or take the equipment-free options.

I've been pretty quiet over the past year or so - between pandemic, homeschooling, the kids' extracurricular activities and now, flooding! When I get stressed and busy, social media is one of the first things I ditch (not so great when you have an online business but anxiety is a b*tch!), so my focus lately has been more towards the kids and the Online Squad membership. 

I'm going to be making more of an effort this year to juggle things better, jump online and give you more tips to nail your health and wellness goals - if you have any questions about exercise, nutrition, yoga, mindset, prenatal/postpartum training (or even Auckland life or homeschooling) hit me up!

Are you building yourself up with activities you n Are you building yourself up with activities you need for self care?

My 4-year-old daughter has been struggling with confidence, social situations and big emotional outbursts in the second half of this year and we've been making changes to help her work through it.

We:
- Brought her bed time earlier to give her more rest.
- Taught her to self-regulate in a quiet, dark space (her room, the kindy library) to soothe her stress response.
- Shortened her kindy days to improve energy levels and give more time at home.
- Reduced the activities that seemed to trigger stress, adding ballet and gymnastics to help build confidence and happiness.
- TV and screen time is bare minimum (she can ask to listen to music whenever she wants).
- Regularly remind her of yoga breathing techniques and calming poses to help her self regulate.

The turnaround from these changes has been amazing! She now sleeps better through the night. There are no more tantrums and emotional outbursts are easy to calm. She now rarely worries about social situations and her previous anxiety issues seem to be gone. She generally seems a lot happier.

Mental wellbeing shouldn't be underrated! Imagine if all grown ups took similar steps for self-care...

These ladies had a great time spelling out CHRISTMAS with exercise moves, building snowmen and doing a not-so-nice finisher to Deck the Halls πŸŽ… Wishing everyone a safe, happy Christmas and  holiday season!
